Fish from sustainable inshore fisheries

Demeter-Felderzeugnisse GmbH has devoted itself to sustainable inshore fishery for over 10 years. With our trademark ‘Wild Ocean’ we want to not only support sustainable fishing, but also indicate reverence for life. We see fish stocks as a resource that needs protection in the long term in order to remain a permanent food source for man. We want the respect that the traditional fishermen have shown for nature over generations to live on.

The fish (Cod, Alaska Pollack, Haddock) we market are fished exclusively off the coast of Iceland. Our Halibut and Salmon off the coast of Alaska. The waters off Iceland and Alaska are among the purest in the world. The Icelandic (Icelandic Fisheries Standards) und Alaskan (Alaska's Ocean Policy) fishery laws are rank among the strictest worldwide because the maintenance of fish stocks is their prime objective. Here a sustainable fisheries management plan was developed many years ago, which assures an income for the local fishermen in the long term. Included in these measures are the setting of quotas annually so as not to endanger the fish stocks, and the closing of complete coastal zones to allow for regeneration of fish numbers.

These strict concepts have convinced Demeter-Felderzeugnissse GmbH. But in addition, a fish growing and developing in the wild is always a more natural and hence better alternative to those which spend their entire lives living on an artificial diet, confined in cages.

Furthermore, the fish caught for ‘Wild Ocean’ are not treated with stabilisers as is often the case. ‘Wild Ocean’ products are made solely from untreated fish filets together with fine organic ingredients.

Our prawn harvest (a project with the university of Costa Rica) also complies fully with the sustainability concept underpinning ‘Wild Ocean’.
